I have a standing date every Wednesday night – with my nan. After work, I come over to cook her dinner and we watch re-runs of Heartbeat on TV. It might not sound like much, but I love every minute of it – because her house is super cozy, her cupboards have chocolate biscuits in them, and she always thinks my stories are really interesting (even when they are about nothing but what I had for lunch).
My nights at this house have changed a bit since my poppy passed away (there's only two of us, we eat dinner on TV trays and can have meals with butter and salt in them), but I think I treasure them even more now. Nan is the glue that holds our whole family together – not to mention, she might be the only other person who gets as much pleasure out of watching Please Marry My Boy as I do. And I hope I'm still standing on this stoop every Wednesday night for a very long time.
That's so sweet. You reminded me that I haven't pay a visit to my grandma in 2 weeks! I should arrange a visit sometime this weekend.
ReplyDeleteThis is just so heartwarming. I can't help but think of my own grandparents as I was reading this. Like your nan, they are the glue that holds my family together - not only that, they hold me together as I grew up with them. Grandparents are the best, aren't they?
ReplyDeletethat is so special that you get to have that time with her every wednesday. such a great post, reminds us to remember and cherish what is most important in life, family.

Beautiful! May you have many, many more years with her that continue on this wonderful tradition. It's moving to see you cherish it so much!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like my hubs grandma. We have grown so close and she is the sweetest woman. She really holds his family together. My grandma passed away this last year so it is nice to have someone around that I can turn to. It is nice of you to spend your Wednesdays keeping up the tradition :) I am sure she appreciates it as much as you do!

This is just SO amazing.
ReplyDeleteI live 8 hrs away from my grandma, and she is sadly now in a nursing home with dementia. I still have such vivid memories of visiting her as a child. Drinking cups of tea, making cookies and watching TV.
Even though I can't be with her, thank you for putting her in my thoughts xx
This is so precious! melts my heart. xoxo
ReplyDeleteps thank you for the sweet blog comment!
